Sea Ranch: seaside beds

2022

I worked with the owners of the Charles Moore Condo #9 to design and build custom bed updates for the original residence of famed architect Charles Moore, whose “Sea Ranch Condominiums” earned him the American Institute of Architect’s 25 Year Gold Medal Award in 1991. Competing sea views and impossibly tight corners created both installation and documentation difficulties, but these are my best photos of the completed work.

The renovation was featured in Dwell Magazine + in 2024. Made from solid white ash with dadoed joinery, through steel rods and delrin spacers. Finished with hand rubbed osmo.

Pacific Pasisades: dining set

2013

I first designed and built this dining set for a newly renovated 1949 ranch house nestled alongside the Santa Monica Mountains, and have remade verisions of it many times since. Made from bookmatched California claro walnut slabs with black walnut finger jointed bases, and finished with hand rubbed oil and varnish.

“It’s the heart of the house,” says Shiva of her table, which sits under a chandelier made of ribbons. “Lee, this wood nymph from up north, made it for me. I picked out the walnut slab, and she turned it into a table.”
